Yoga Teacher Training in India

Rishikesh, the world capital of Yoga, is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas along the banks of the sacred Ganges River. Here, amidst breathtaking natural beauty, ancient temples, and ashrams, practitioners can delve deep into their yoga practice, tapping into centuries-old traditions and wisdom.

The once small village has now become a global site of pilgrimage for spiritual development, as it has long been a sanctuary for those on a quest for inner peace and enlightenment. The legacy of the Beatles, who famously retreated here in the 1960s, further enhances Rishikesh’s allure, infusing it with a mystique that resonates with seekers of all backgrounds.

A yoga teacher training in Rishikesh becomes an immersive journey where ancient wisdom meets modern practice, fostering deep spiritual connection and personal transformation. A perfect environment for self-reflection and inner growth, embarking upon this deep journey within, you will be tapping into a century old tradition in the town of “Rishis” (Sages or Seers) – Rishikesh.

Curriculum

Training is based on tradition and classical Yoga in its core as it draws from ancient yogic texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Tantric Yoga, and other. At the same time modern teachings are incorporated into the methodology such as the biomechanics of the body, therapeutic alignment and intelligent sequencing. This ancient tradition and modern science is embodied in daily practice, on and off the mat.

Location

Rishikesh is located approximately 240 kilometers from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Fastest way to reach Rishikesh from New Delhi is by train to Haridwar and then a short taxi or rikshaw ride from Haridwar to Rishikesh. If you wish to fly from New Delhi closer to Rishikesh, there is a Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport 25 kilometers away from Rishikesh. From there you can enjoy a scenic taxi drive enriched with the natural beauty that the Himalayan foothills have to offer.

Accommodation

We are honored to have the opportunity to hold this training at the biggest and most known Ashram in Rishikesh, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, home to the annual World Yoga Festival. The Ashram is nestled along the banks of the holy Ganga River. This sacred sanctuary provides an authentic yoga experience deeply rooted in tradition. As one of the oldest and most revered ashrams in Rishikesh, it attracts not only seekers from around the world but also rishis and wise people who come to impart their knowledge and wisdom.

The Ashram’s tranquil ambiance and Himalayan backdrop provide the ideal setting for our exploration of traditional yogic lifestyle, philosophy, and practice. Accommodation is based on double occupancy in simple yet comfortable A/C rooms. We aim to create an authentic yogic experience that dates centuries back and supports us in this sacred journey. Please note that simple ashram life does not offer luxurious resort-style amenities. Participants are invited to embrace the simplicity and dedication that define the traditional yogic lifestyle. Parmarth Niketan Ashram is a sacred space for serious spiritual seekers.

Arrival and departure

All travel arrangements are to be made by the participants. We can assist you with directions from Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport or New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, and with bringing you in touch with other participants arriving in New Delhi around the same time.

Buses and trains run regularly from New Delhi to Rishikesh, and it is straightforward to reach Rishikesh by either mode of transport, although railway would be faster. An express train takes only about 3hr 20min from New Delhi Railway to Haridwar and then about 35 kilometers taxi ride to Rishikesh. If you chose to take a domestic flight and fly into Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport, then a taxi ride to Rishikesh is about 25 kilometers. As we approach the start of the training, we will gather participants’ arrival times and facilitate connections between those arriving at similar times in New Delhi, enabling you to share a taxi or travel together by bus or train.

Food

Parmarth Niketan Ashram has an on-site canteen that offers simple, nutritious vegetarian meals for a small fee. We did not preplan your meals or include food fee in the training to allow you to choose your food according to personal preferences and dietary needs. Additionally, there are many restaurants and food stalls in Rishikesh, providing a variety of vegetarian and vegan options. Please note, as Rishikesh is considered a holy land and an important pilgrimage center in the country, one cannot find non-vegetarian food or alcohol.
