With Tanya Savitri Popovich and Samanta Dougal

DATES

November 10 – 24, 2026
Banana House, Lamu, Kenya

Our teacher training is based on Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, so that upon completion of this program the trainees can include any kind of audience and adopt the teachings according to the student’s needs. This is a deeply transformational experience of self-development and a golden standard in professional training. Directed by Tanya Savitri Popovich, E-RYT500 and Yoga Acharya with a 20-year international teaching experience, this teacher training course is a combination of thousands of hours of training and experience in various classical and modern yoga systems, concentrated into a 200hr intensive foundational education.
We are a Yoga Alliance registered school at a 200-hr & 500-hr level, and YACEP.

Curriculum

Training is based on tradition and classical Yoga in its core as it draws from ancient yogic texts such as the Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Vedanta, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Tantric Yoga, and others. At the same time modern teachings are incorporated into the methodology such as the biomechanics of the body, therapeutic alignment and intelligent sequencing. This ancient tradition and modern science is embodied in daily practice, on and off the mat.

Location

Known as one of East Africa’s most enchanting coastal gems, the idyllic island of Lamu in Kenya offers a timeless escape where history, culture, and natural beauty blend seamlessly.

Lamu or Lamu Town is a small town on Lamu Island, which in turn is a part of the Lamu Archipelago in Kenya.

A serene paradise untouched by modern chaos, Lamu invites you into a slower rhythm of life, where narrow winding streets replace roads and traditional dhows glide gracefully across turquoise waters.

Fringed by pristine beaches and shaded by swaying palms, the island is a haven for those seeking tranquility, with soft white stretching along the coastline and warm ocean breezes carrying the scent of salt and spice. Beyond its shores, Lamu reveals a rich tapestry of Swahili culture, where centuries-old architecture, intricately carved wooden doors, and coral stone buildings tell stories of a vibrant past shaped by African, Arab, and Persian influences.

Life here unfolds gently, from sunrise walks along Shela Beach to evenings lit by lanterns and filled with the sound of the call to prayer echoing across the island. The local cuisine is a celebration of flavour, featuring fragrant dishes infused with coconut, cardamom, and freshly caught seafood, offering a true taste of the coast.

With its welcoming community, deep-rooted traditions, and unspoiled charm, Lamu is more than just a destination—it’s an experience that transports you to another time, leaving you feeling both deeply relaxed and richly inspired.

Accommodation and Food
at Banana House,
November 10–24, 2026

Our training in Lamu takes place at Banana House, a charming and tranquil retreat nestled in the heart of Shela Village, just a short stroll from the beach.

Surrounded by swaying palms, Banana House is a peaceful retreat where traditional Swahili design meets relaxed island living. Hidden along sandy pathways, it features airy rooms, whitewashed walls, carved wood details, a courtyard pool, and rooftop terraces overlooking Shela. Each room is uniquely styled with an ensuite bathroom and a private seating area, and air fans, offering comfort in the coastal heat.

Just a short walk from Shela Beach, it’s an ideal place to unwind—whether through quiet moments, ocean swims, or sunset views of passing dhows.

Breakfast is included in your stay at Banana House, served fresh each morning with tropical fruits, eggs, local breads, and Swahili-inspired flavours. Lunch and dinner are not included, however the in-house kitchen prepares fresh, flavorful meals daily using local ingredients where you can purchase your own meals. The menu is flexible, and the chefs are happy to adapt to different tastes and dietary needs. You also have the freedom to explore nearby cafés and restaurants in Shela according to your own tastes and preferences.

Arrival and Departure

Boat transfers will be arranged to meet you upon arrival at Manda Airport, provided your flight details are shared with us in advance.

Upon landing at Manda Airport (LAU), a Banana House representative will meet you at the arrivals exit holding a “Banana House” sign. You will be assisted with your luggage and guided to the nearby pier, where a boat captain will be waiting to transfer you across to Shela Village on Lamu Island. As you approach the shore, the team will be notified of your arrival and will meet you at the beachfront to assist you and accompany you to the property.

International guests are advised to fly into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) or Moi International Airport (Mombasa), and then take a domestic flight to Manda Airport with airlines such as Safarilink, AirKenya, or Jambojet. There are typically morning, afternoon, and evening flight options available.

Arrival day is the first day of the training, with a welcome session held in the evening. Departure day is the final day of the training, and participants are free to leave in the morning, usually after breakfast.

What to Bring
